Gratitude lies at the heart of JourneyCare and its mission. Without our generous supporters, patients and their families could not receive the extensive,
unique JourneyCare services that treat the whole person—body, mind and spirit.
This summer, JourneyCare Foundation welcomed its new president, Joseph Matty, who shares this philosophy of gratitude. Matty says he aims to build lasting relationships with everyone who supports access to outstanding end-of-life care. As a part of this, Matty explains how the Foundation will strive to help JourneyCare supporters make an impact in the ways that are most important to them:
Q. Is planned giving for everyone?
A. Regardless of your age or estate size, planned giving makes a critical impact in helping us ensure JourneyCare is here for generations to come. But ultimately your needs as a philanthropist comes first. Some like to give while they can see the positive good their generosity creates right now. Others prefer that their giving helps us to build a sustainable future for hospice and palliative care.
Q. How can supporters know what’s right for them?
A. We are here to talk to you about whatever scenario is right for you by exploring your wishes, as well as financial benefits like tax advantages. We appreciate and value every gift JourneyCare receives, and we understand that our donors have different times in their lives where philanthropy is best for them.
Q. Now that more people know about hospice, is it still critical to support JourneyCare?
A. Yes. The need for our organization in the Chicago region is more important than ever. There has been a 74 percent increase nationally in the number of patients served by hospice and palliative
care in the last decade, according to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. And because 42 percent of our country’s adult populations are baby boomers approaching retirement, the need for palliative care and home hospice is rising. Your generosity will fill this vital need, while also ensuring that JourneyCare patients and their families continue receiving outstanding clinical care alongside integrative therapies like Music Care Services, art therapy, pet therapy and grief support.
