JourneyCare is a pioneer in applying sound to ease pain and anxiety, especially at the end of life.
What is Music-Thanatology?
When coupled with JourneyCare’s expert training, music is a powerful tool for easing pain and anxiety. Creating beautiful music with harp and voice, a certified music-thanatoligist at JourneyCare will modulate both their tempo and tone to respond to changes in a patients body, such as the slowing of pulse and breathing. This advanced, science-based music program guides patients during the transition through the final hours of life.
JourneyCare is the only hospice in Illinois with a music-thanatology program, with staff having met the rigorous standards of professional certification by the Music-Thanatology Association International. Drawing on both musical and clinical palliative care training, a JourneyCare music-thanatology expert will work in periodic vigils that alternate with silent periods for you and your loved ones to rest.
