Music Therapy and Music-Thanatology
JourneyCare is a pioneer in applying sound to ease pain, anxiety and depression. Our board-certified music therapists use a range of musical techniques to help you relax, express feelings and recall significant experiences from your life. Through both instruments and voice, our music therapists work with you, encouraging you to sing along or helping you write a song to leave as a legacy for the people you love.
We also use music to ease suffering at the end of life. JourneyCare employs three of just over 100 trained music-thanatologists in the world, and three of only 57 that have met the standards for professional certification by the Music-Thanatology Association International. We are the only hospice in Illinois with a music-thanatology program.
Drawing on both musical and clinical palliative care training, these experts work in periodic vigils that alternate with silent periods for you and your loved ones to rest. Creating music with harp and voice, they modulate its tempo and tone to respond to changes in the body, such as the slowing of pulse and breathing. This advanced, science-based music guides patients during the transition through the final hours of life.
