Leading Changes in Hospice and Palliative Care:

Greetings Friends,

Right now, the adage rings true – the more things change the more they stay the same. During these challenging times, JourneyCare is thankful that your support and leadership remain steadfast and strong.

Last week, we hosted a town hall featuring our President and CEO, Kimberly Hobson, and one of our distinguished community and organizational leaders, Dr. Jeffery Vender. If you were not one of the 125 people on the live chat, please know we will host another town hall in late May on legal matters related to COVID-19. If there is a topic you would like us to feature in the future, please email me.

This week, JourneyCare welcomes the director of our Hunter Family Foundation Workforce Development Initiative, Venoncia Baté-Ambrus. The initiative, funded by donors and in partnership with a handful of community college partners, will enable JourneyCare to recruit, educate and retain nurses through the profession’s continuum. Recognizing all nurses’ essential roles in hospice care, the initiative includes opportunities for Certified Nursing Assistants, Registered Nurses and Advanced Practice Nurses. In addition, this initiative will support JourneyCare’s hiring, training, and deployment of Community Health Workers who will educate underserved communities about palliative and hospice care, increasing access to care across JourneyCare’s service area.

With new programs like our town hall meetings and the Hunter Family Foundation Workforce Development Initiative, we owe thanks to you, our philanthropists and community/corporate leaders. You have enabled us to be nimble and creative in developing new ways to assist our patients and family members, both immediately as we respond to COVID-19 and in the future.

Again, thank you for the kind notes you share and the generous assistance you have given to JourneyCare. I hope you stay safe, and I look forward to seeing each of you soon. Please remember, we are grateful for your support today, so we can be there for you when you need us.
