In November, 2011, the Siman family of McHenry, Ill., lost its beloved matriarch, Carlene, to cancer. The last weeks of her life were spent being cared by JourneyCare.
“The love and support JourneyCare gave to my Grandma was absolutely phenomenal,” shared Brad Siman. “JourneyCare truly helped make her last days and the time we spent with her much more comfortable.”
To celebrate her memories and to thank JourneyCare, the Siman family established a commemorative 5K race, Turkey Trot for Hospice, with the net proceeds going to JourneyCare. The inaugural race took place at McHenry High School – East Campus on Thanksgiving Day, 2012. Now, the TurkeyTrot for Hospice has become an annual Thanksgiving Day event.
“My family decided to organize a race in memory of Grandma as a way to thank the angels from JourneyCare and to help ensure they can continue providing the same loving care to other families in need,” Brad added.
